We are kicking off a new series of informative, but fun wine education forums and teaming up with well known wine educator Michael Ellis(otherswise known as The Wine Punter for twitter & facebook users) to get you excited about wine. Not just ours, but the focus will be on general wine knowledge including what to look for in a wine, wine matching, wine varieties, wine regions, etc. A message from Michael below.

I’m really stoked to be hosting some workshops in early 2012 in conjunction with my good friends Thomas and Kate from Ocean View Estate Winery.  I’ve got an exciting, engaging and innovative approach to wine education and tasting, rest assured you won’t be bored senseless with technical jargon and you will leave armed with all the knowledge and confidence you need to make choosing, buying and enjoying wine a breeze.

We have 4 sessions planned so far (see below), each one looking at different aspects of wine.   We’ll take you behind the scenes, tell you everything you’ve ever wanted to know about wine but have been too afraid to ask, and do so in a way in which you’ll feel empowered and confident to get out there and explore the world of wines.

We’ll keep the technical stuff to a minimum and focus on the essential tools you need to get the most out of your wine drinking.  It will be fun, we’ll have a laugh, you’ll learn that wine isn’t really that intimidating and be well prepared to make the most of the incredible wines we have here in Australia

February 25th – Introduction to Wine Drinking, Appreciating and Styles 

  • Whites and reds
  • How to taste – what exactly am I supposed to be looking for?
  • How to buy wines suited to your palate
  • What makes a good wine?
  • A few terms and tips to help you understand what you’re drinking and why you like / don’t like it
  • All wines (generous pours!), antipasto platter and notes included

The first of the series to be held on the 25th January from 4pm-6pm (followed by antipasto platters) will be an introduction to tasting and enjoying wines.The cost will only be $55/person including notes, an informative, fun session, the wines for tasting and a chance to chat over antipasto platters to finish.
