Established in 1998, with the planting of our first vines, our Estate grows four varieties of grape: Viognier, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Ruby Cabernet, with additional varieties such as Verdelho and Merlot sourced from the South Burnett region.

Our award winning wines are passionately hand crafted by Chief Winemaker Thomas Honnef with the assistance of his daughter and son-in-law Hannah and Andrew Hathway. A true family affair!

The winemakers

Thomas Honnef

Chief Winemaker Thomas Honnef has always had an interest in good wine, growing up making wine and beer at home with his dad. Armed with a biochemistry background and raw passion, he dived head first into growing grapes and making wine as soon as business partner Cal Irons approached him with the idea. The first few years were spent working with a consultant, learning the ropes and since then has been a journey of constant learning and improving. Thomas loves that the Australian wine industry is science-based and innovative as it gives him room to experiment with different processes and techniques and find what works best in our region and climate.

Hannah Hathway

Daughter of Thomas and Kate, Hannah is passionate about everything that happens at Ocean View Estates. Growing up on the winery, she was always right beside her dad, in the vineyard, in the winery, staying home from school to drive the tractor. Growing grapes and making wine was a huge part of her childhood and her love and excitement for it has not died down. Working under Thomas, she is carrying on the family tradition and keeping the passion alive and fresh. She says that although he drives her crazy at times, working with her Dad is the greatest honour and pleasure and she loves learning from him and being challenged to do better.

Andrew hathway

Hannah’s husband Andrew is a welcome addition to the wine making team at Ocean View Estates. Hannah and Andrew met during an exam while they were both studying wine making and viticulture and he started working for Ocean View Estates not long after that, He loves that he gets to learn on the job and that every day is different. You would think that working with your wife AND your father-in-law would be quite stressful, however Andrew really is the glue that keeps it all together and the peacemaker on the team. Without him, there would be many more arguments and a lot more tears!
